Specific Job Description:
RMSL is a growth company with an outstanding job opportunity for an Engineering Technician. This position will report to the Technical Services Team Lead or Technical Services Group Manager but frequently receive direction from other Group Managers within RMSL. The Engineering Technician will be an integral part of a number of cross functional teams working on exciting development projects with cutting-edge technology. In this role, the ideal candidate will have a background in manufacturing, automation, fabrication, engineering, or related scientific field with proven versatility and adaptability. This role will support all 6 groups within RMSL as the needs arise. These groups are:
Advanced Chemistry & Chemical Processing Group
Armaments Development Group
Automation & Robotics Group
Dynamic Testing Group
Special Projects Group
Technical Execution Group
This individual must demonstrate innovative thought, an understanding of the fundamentals of engineering, an ability to learn, an ability to take and follow direction, out-of-the-box thinking and creativity all while following defined and implied safety operating procedures and following
RMSL core values.
Duties Include:
- Support of various mechanical design activities
- Concept generation and collaboration
- Respectful and productive brainstorming
- Technical documentation
- Support of process definition
- Identification and documentation of safe handling practices
- Design, source selection, installation, maintenance, and operation of specialized instrumentation and testing equipment.
- Compliance in restricted information security regulations
- Compliance in explosive storage and handling regulations
- Help assist in the setup, execution, and tear-down of field and laboratory experiments
- Help assist in the data compilation, analysis, and recording of tests for report generation
- Ability to handle materials with strict adherence to safety process requirements
- Potential travel to assist ongoing project needs (<~1 month in total)
Required Skills:
- Problem solver that can work in a fast-paced team environment on projects
- Hands-on experience with energetic materials or other hazardous materials
- Proficient in standard laboratory practices
- Exercises creative thinking and innovation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Physical requirements:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.; must have the ability to see near and far and work with a computer monitor on a daily basis
- Required to bend, sit, stand and lift to perform job effectively
- Must be able to work overtime as required
- Fabrication, machining, carpentry and general assembly proficiency
- Operate (or be able to be trained to operate) a Forklift.
- Be able to prepare for and handle adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, etc).
Highly Beneficial Skills:
- Familiar with general explosive effects
- Knowledge of basic-intermediate chemistry and/or chemical engineering
- Computer Aided Design (SolidWorks)
- Electrical concepts and fundamentals (wiring, switching, communications, etc)
- PLC Programming and/or troubleshooting
- Mechanical assembly and/or fabrication
- Manufacturing experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work productively within a team
- General fabrication, assembly, machining, or carpentry experience/proficiency
- Ability to obtain security clearance if requested
