Role Description The QC/QA CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) is a full-time, on-site role based in Lucedale, MS. This role is responsible for monitoring and documenting welding and mechanical work to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. Day-to-day tasks include performing visual weld inspections, verifying welding procedures and welder qualifications, reviewing and maintaining quality records, and supporting non-destructive examination activities. The QC/QA CWI will collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and craft personnel to address nonconformances, implement corrective actions, and promote continuous improvement in quality practices. The role also involves participating in pre-job planning, conducting site audits, and helping ensure that all work is performed safely and in accordance with company and client requirements.
Qualifications
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential or equivalent certification, with strong knowledge of welding codes, standards, and procedures (e.g., AWS, ASME).
- Experience in industrial or mechanical environments, ideally with boilers, pressure vessels, piping, or related pulp and paper/process industry equipment.
- Ability to perform detailed visual inspections, interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols, and verify compliance with project specifications.
- Proficiency in quality control and quality assurance practices, including documentation, record keeping, and support of non-destructive testing activities.
- Strong safety awareness and familiarity with industrial safety practices, including working in active plant environments and around heavy equipment.
- Effective communication skills to work with supervisors, craft personnel, and clients, including clear written reporting of inspection results and nonconformances.
- Capability to work on-site in Lucedale, MS, including standing, climbing, and performing inspections in confined or elevated spaces, as required by the job.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or coursework in welding, mechanical, or industrial fields is preferred.
- Previous experience in QC/QA roles in construction, mechanical contracting, or industrial maintenance is highly beneficial.
