Crew Lead & Installers — Job Description
Position Title: Crew Lead & Installers
Department: Field Operations
Reports To: Project Manager / Lead Solar Technician
Location: Various residential and commercial job sites
Position Summary
The Crew Lead is responsible for supervising a small team of solar installation technicians on-site, ensuring that installations are completed safely, efficiently, and according to company quality standards. This role requires hands-on solar experience, leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate with project managers, electricians, and other trades.
Key ResponsibilitiesCrew Supervision
- Lead a team of 2–5 installers on-site.
- Assign tasks daily and monitor team performance.
- Train new crew members on installation processes, safety protocols, and best practices.
- Ensure all team members follow safety and quality guidelines.
Installation & Technical Support
- Assist with the installation of solar PV systems, including modules, inverters, racking, and wiring.
- Troubleshoot installation issues and provide solutions on-site.
- Verify work quality and ensure installations meet NEC, local, and company standards.
- Assist with commissioning tasks as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA and company safety standards on all job sites.
- Conduct pre-installation site assessments for hazards and safety compliance.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, tools, and equipment.
Communication & Coordination
- Report progress, challenges, and resource needs to the Project Manager or Lead Solar Technician.
- Coordinate with other trades or subcontractors on-site.
- Address customer inquiries professionally, when needed.
QualificationsRequired
- 1–3 years of solar installation experience
- Basic electrical knowledge preferred
- Hands-on experience with PV modules, racking, inverters, and wiring
- Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to guide a small team
- Ability to read site plans and electrical diagrams
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work on roofs
Preferred
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- NABCEP PV Associate or PV Installation Professional certification
- Prior experience leading crews on residential or commercial projects
