POSITION SUMMARY:  
The Event Sales Manager – SMERF & Small Corporate Market is responsible for generating, qualifying, and contracting private event business within the Social, Military, Educational, Religious, and Fraternal (SMERF) segments, as well as corporate groups of 40 guests and below, across RMD Group venues in San Diego. This role focuses exclusively on sales activities, owning the client relationship from initial inquiry through contract execution and formal handoff to the Event Service team.
 
This position emphasizes proactive outbound sales, inbound lead conversion, and relationship building with community-based organizations and corporate partners. The Event Sales Manager works closely with venue leadership and the Event Service team to ensure a smooth transition post-contract while driving new and repeat business, increasing market penetration, and meeting or exceeding revenue goals.
 
Type: Salary, Full-time 
Pay scale: $75,000.00 - $115,000.00 (Commission included)

This role focuses exclusively on sales activities, owning the client relationship from initial inquiry through contract execution and formal handoff to the Event Service team.
 
This position emphasizes proactive outbound sales, inbound lead conversion, and relationship building with community-based organizations and corporate partners. The Event Sales Manager works closely with venue leadership and the Event Service team to ensure a smooth transition post-contract while driving new and repeat business, increasing market penetration, and meeting or exceeding revenue goals.
 
Sales Responsibilities – SMERF & Corporate Market
  • Manage all inbound and outbound sales activity for SMERF groups and corporate events of 40 guests and below all RMD venues.
  • Proactively generate new business through SMERF-focused outreach and corporate prospecting, including community partnerships, military and educational engagement, networking, referrals, and targeted outreach.
  • Respond promptly to all inbound inquiries; qualify opportunities based on guest count, budget, event goals, and venue fit.
  • Prepare and present tailored proposals including sample menus, minimums, layouts, and cost estimates aligned with client needs and RMD standards.
  • Conduct site tours and effectively present venue capabilities, pricing structures, and booking requirements.
  • Negotiate terms, secure deposits, and convert proposals into signed contracts in alignment with RMD pricing, policies, and approval processes.
  • Maintain a disciplined sales cadence—including follow-ups, outreach blocks, and pipeline management—consistent with departmental expectations.
  • Track all sales activity, forecasting, communication, and deal progress within CRM to ensure full visibility and accurate reporting.
  • Achieve or exceed individual sales goals tied to SMERF and small corporate revenue targets.
Event Transition & Internal Coordination
  • Execute a complete and accurate handoff of all contracted events to the Event Service team, ensuring clarity on scope, client expectations, and key details.
  • Participate in internal turnover meetings as needed to support seamless event execution post-contract.
  • Remain available for high-level client communication or clarification following contract handoff, as required.
  • Collaborate with venue GMs, Event Service Managers, and the VP of Sales & Events to align sales strategy, pricing consistency, and market focus.
Department & Company Contribution
  • Partner with Sales Managers and leadership to support overall department revenue goals and cross-venue alignment.
  • Participate in SMERF- and corporate-focused networking events, community outreach, and professional organizations to build pipeline and brand awareness.
  • Assist with departmental initiatives including marketing support, lead generation campaigns, and CRM process improvements.
  • Stay informed on competitive landscape, SMERF market trends, seasonal demand, and partnership opportunities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities or special projects as assigned by RMD Partners, Venue GMs, or the Director / VP of Sales & Events.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, Communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2–4 years of experience in event sales, SMERF market segments, hotel sales, or hospitality operations preferred.
 
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:
  • San Diego County Food Handlers Card (must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
  • Anti-harassment and nondiscrimination 1-hour class.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  
  • Must be able to travel frequently between venues within San Diego County; occasional evening and weekend availability required to support restaurant operations. Work is performed in both office settings and onsite in active hospitality environments.
  • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for up to 8 hours at a time.  
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds safely and properly.  
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and climb.  
  • Must be able to push and pull.  

Salary : $75,000 - $115,000
