This is a non-FRA position> The Rail Switching Technician plays a crucial role in the safe and efficient operation of rail systems. This position involves managing the movement of trains and rail cars within a designated area, ensuring that all operations comply with safety regulations and industry standards. Duties
- Operate switches and signals to control train movements safely and efficiently.
- Conduct inspections of rail cars and equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Collaborate with other technicians and railway personnel to coordinate train schedules and movements.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to air brakes and other rail equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of train movements, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Respond promptly to any incidents or emergencies on the rail yard.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company policies and safety regulations.
Skills
- Proficient understanding of air brake systems and their operation.
- Strong mechanical knowledge, with the ability to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
- Experience in heavy equipment operation, including cranes or locomotives.
- Familiarity with military protocols or experience in a militarized environment is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with team members.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and maintain focus during long shifts.
