What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carrier Sales Manager position at RJW Logistics Group?
Job Purpose: The Carrier Sales Manager coaches and mentors all carrier representatives to ensure that carriers are sourced for all orders in the most cost-effective manner and mode (includes training new Carrier Representatives).
The Carrier Sales Manager continuously looks to increase the carrier base by coaching and mentoring the carrier representatives on sourcing and vetting new carriers.
The Carrier Sales Manager works closely with the CAM's on quoting transactional business and RFP's.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Managerial Responsibilities
Monitor Carrier Representatives, including but not limited to carrier communications via phone, email and uses of load posting services.
Monitor the Planned Board, including but not limited to ensuring accurate target/max pricing is applied to each transactional load and preferred mode of transport.
Review carrier utilization frequently to ensure freight negotiations remain competitive. Continuously train/coach reps.
Review carrier awards and performance ensuring carriers are being used properly, not over tendered or under tendered.
Hold Carrier Representatives to their KPI's and perform Performance Improvement Plans when necessary.
Hold weekly carrier performance review. Lead carrier representatives to host carrier reviews and participate when needed.
Handle and coach the resolution of problems related to shipments when needed.
Manage the utilization and execution of all load board services and monitor its usage and security.
Manage Carrier Representative tracking to ensure all loads contain proper driver and dispatcher contact information, and all loads contain morning and afternoon check calls.
Provide direction and ensure proper handoff to after hours Carrier team.
Other tasks assigned by manager.Builds Customer Relations.
Keeps CAM's informed of service delays and potential issues.
Make carrier award adjustments to meet the service expectations of our customers.
Provide quotes on new lanes and provide pricing on RFP's.
Builds Carrier Relations.Direct Carrier Representatives to source additional carriers though all available platforms based on RJW's coverage needs and market conditions.
Ensure carrier vetting process is followed for all new onboarded carriers.
Assign, distribute and manage carrier ownership relationships amongst team.
Additional Responsibilities: Excellent verbal and written skills.Knowledge and ability to enter data in Logistics software.
Excellent problem solving and resolution skills.
Ability to work under pressure situations.
Ability to Multi-task.Detail oriented.
Qualifications: 5 years experience in the field of logistics and/or transportation.
Experience with dealing with a diverse carrier base. 2 supervisory experience.
Education and/or Experience Required: High School Diploma required with previous logistics experience.4 Year College Degree preferred but not mandatoryLanguage
Skills Sets: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to determine "root cause" of problem and determine corrective action.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of Business Operating Systems, Internet software, Word Processing, and Spreadsheet software.
Physical Demands: Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Must be able to activate phone systems utilizing keyboards and buttons.
Must be articulate and comfortable speaking in front of others.
Regularly works in an indoor/office environment and required to sit and/or use repetitive hand motion.Frequently required to talk, hear, stand and walk.
Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required.
Must be able to work under stressful situations, have good cognitive skills, maintain work accuracy, and the ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time.
Must have the ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media with 20/20 corrected vision.
Must be able to speak and communicate clearly over telephones.
