Legal Staff Counsel – P&C Insurance

Our client is a commercial multi-line insurance organization writing commercial businesses nationwide. They have retained RJR Executive Search to find talented attorneys to join their Home Office Claims Legal Team. This is an in-house attorney position, and the role does not involve appearing directly in court.
Our client is seeking attorneys who will provide legal advice, strategy, and support on all manner of claims and lawsuits against their policyholders and the Company. This is an in-house attorney position helping to develop litigation strategies related to property and casualty claims matters. The role provides legal counsel and advice on the technical handling of complex or high-exposure lawsuits and claims. The role directs and assists claims personnel in selecting, retaining and managing outside counsel.

Position Requirements
- A Juris Doctorate required, and the individual must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Minnesota or a member in good standing of another State Bar and willing to obtain a license to practice law in Minnesota.
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of work experience in litigation demonstrating the ability to successfully litigate complex and large value claims; defending insurance policy holders in tort lawsuits and/or insurance companies in coverage related litigation.
- Private practice experience handling insurance defense.
- Experience working for an insurance carrier in the role of Claims Staff Counsel is preferred.
- An unquestioned ability to retain confidential business and personnel information.
- Be able to communicate and synthesize complex issues crisply, clearly, and convincingly.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good problem-solving aptitude.
- Proficiency with technology and strong computer skills.
