BILINGUAL TECHNOLOGY TRAINER (ENGLISH, MANDARIN, CANTONESE) – PART TIME – NYC

Our client, a major non-profit association helping older adults use technology, seeks a Technology Trainer for an 18-month, part-time (20 hours per week). This position is a unique opportunity for a passionate individual to work to empower older adults by helping them thrive in the digital world and harness technology to achieve their personal goals. Trainers are the face of the organization to older adults; in addition to delivering their curriculum and offering technology support, trainers serve as “brand ambassadors” and are responsible for communicating the organization’s culture of excellence, curiosity, and attitude.

Trainers teach the organization’s curriculum using books and online resources specifically designed for older adults. In-person classes typically meet twice a week for ten weeks. Virtual programs are primarily one-off sessions focused on technology topics. Trainers guide participants in sending emails, exploring their interests online, connecting with family and friends on social media, banking online, starting small businesses, and much more.

This position requires solid proficiency in common software applications and devices, but more important is a dedication to teaching and the ability to effectively communicate the relevance of technology to seniors’ lives. You should possess a high degree of patience, creativity, dependability, and problem-solving ability, along with a sense of humor and a strong commitment to social change.

Schedule

  • You will work between the hours of 9-5 conducting trainings for 1.5 – 3 hours, this includes set up times.
  • You will need to go to different sites throughout the week in all 5 boroughs of NYC.

  • Working hours are typically Mondays – Thursdays.
  • Schedules are determined at the beginning of each quarter.
  • A 1–2 week break may be taken at the end of each quarter to allow time for preparation for the next.

Responsibilities

  • Teach technology courses virtually and in-person using the organization’s curriculum and approach.
  • Create a comfortable and supportive learning environment.
  • Offer personalized support to callers on hotlines.
  • Make outbound calls to senior members.
  • Represent and promote the organization’s culture and opportunities to course participants.
  • Engage in regular communication with staff, including feedback on site issues, curriculum, etc.

  • Collect surveys and evaluations.
  • Enter data into Salesforce database.
  • Participate in trainer meetings and other training events.
  • Recruit participants.
  • Supervise volunteers who assist classes.

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
  • Experience teaching teenagers, adults, and/or seniors, preferable.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a professional work setting.
  • Proficiency with Windows computers, iOS, popular social media sites, and other common technologies/devices.
  • Comfortable traveling to various senior/community centers as needed.
