RJ Cafe & Bistro is a busy bookstore cafe aka "Madison's Hidden Gem" We are not a typical bookstore cafe, but a restaurant with table service serving up delicious soups, sandwiches, paninis, salads, flatbreads and more. We prepare all our menu items to order using fresh, real ingredients.

We are seeking a dedicated, skilled and passionate Line Cook to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and cooking, with experience in various kitchen environments. This role is essential for maintaining the high standards of our kitchen operations, ensuring that every dish is prepared with precision and care. Experience in a restaurant kitchen is preferred, but will train the right person. Servsafe certification is a plus!

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and standards.
• Ensure all food is prepared in compliance with food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and sanitary work area at all times including equipment, counters and floors.
• Use time management skills in a fast paced environment to cook, prepare and plate multiple orders following company standards during peak hours.
• Assist in menu planning and development, contributing creative ideas for new dishes.
• Handle food items safely, adhering to proper food handling techniques.
• Complete daily and weekly cleaning tasks.
• Manage food cost and ensure stock levels by minimizing waste and following established food handling, preparation and rotation of products.

Skills

• Proven experience in a line cook or similar role within the food industry.
• Ability to multi-task and work quickly and efficiently while maintaining company standards.
• Excellent food handling practices and knowledge of food safety standards.
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff.
• Must demonstrate enthusiasm for work and be detail oriented.
• Must be able to read and follow recipes, menus and directions.
• Must be able to lift up to 30lbs and use stairs multiple times per shift.
