Responsibilities
- Lead a team of mechanical engineers to develop EV charging products
- Technical oversight over electro-mechanical design including thermal management, high voltage power electronics and low voltage system integration
- Review designs and make design improvement recommendations
- Provide direction on technical issue resolution
- Communicate technical status of systems and components
- Develop design best practices and standards
- Ensure timely releases and accurate BOM management in the company PLM system
- Participate in DFMEAs, test plan creation and risk assessments
- Participate in supplier reviews and supplier development
- Ensure Design for Manufacutring best practices are followed and implemented in partnership with the manufacturing engineering team
- Support manufacturing, internal and contract, for prototype and production builds
- Make hiring and other staffing decisions in partnership with the People team
- Support development of engineers on the team. Provide support, coaching and growth opportunities for your team
- Develop relationships with peer mechanical engineering teams
- Work with your team to identify new technology that can enhance the performance of next generation products
Qualifications
- 10 years industry experience
- At least a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. Advanced degree preferred
- Experience with consumer products design and development through to market launch and on going field support
- Good knowledge of manufacturing methods and requirements including machining, stamping, punching and casting
- Good knowledge of plastics manufacturing methods including injection molding and extrusion
- Experience reviewing 3D models (CATIA experience preferred)
- Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Understanding of power components heat generation
- Understanding of safety of conductive materials and grounding
- Experience with ground up requirements definition and supplier management
- Experience with DFMEAs and DVPs
- Excellent and effective communicator with engineers and executives
- Detail orientated with strong design decision skills
- Strong leadership behaviors, ideally with direct team building and management experience
- Experience delivering products in a fast paced environment while adhering to design release and product life cycle management processes
- Experience with working with high power and high voltage system and components preferred
Pay Disclosure
Salary range for California Based Applicants: $189,000-$,217000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
