SUMMARY:The PACU/POST OP Nurse is responsible for the care of patients recovering from anesthesia after surgical procedures. This includes monitoring vital signs, assessing recovery from anesthesia, managing pain, and addressing post-operative complications. The PACU/POST OP Nurse ensures patient safety and comfort during the post-anesthesia phase.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Monitor and assess post-operative patients as they regain consciousness from anesthesia.
- Manage pain control, administer medications, and respond to complications.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families.
- Maintain accurate documentation in patient records.
- Collaborate with surgeons, CRNA’s, and other healthcare team members in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and nursing procedures and protocols.
- Prepare patients for discharge.
- Assist in preop as needed.
- Assists with orientation of new personnel.
- Understands the use, placement, and interpretation of all monitoring equipment.
- Is familiar with the dosage route of administration, action, adverse drug reactions, and reversal medications of all medications commonly during procedures.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensing: Possess a valid Registered Nurse License in the State of Nebraska.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in critical care, ICU, or PACU.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
- Certification in PACU, Critical Care, or Perioperative Care is encouraged.
