The Wound Care Registered Nurse provides advanced wound care in collaboration with members of the care team. The Registered Nurse assesses wounds and implements a care plan designed towards optimal wound care outcomes.
Job Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor wounds. Clean and bandage as required.
- Implement the wound/ostomy/continence treatment plan of care.
- Explain procedures, medications, and treatment to be administered to patient and authorized friend or family member. Adjust teaching format to ensure patient and home support learning and understanding.
- Assist medical providers with treatments and procedures as necessary.
- Monitor patient for adverse patient response to wound/ostomy/continence treatments.
- Administer medications as applicable, knowing their actions and side effects. Recognize and report any allergic reactions and the patient’s response to drugs.
- Accurately and timely document patient findings, patient condition, visit details, plan of care, discharge plan and other pertinent input. Communicate with physician assessment findings, patient conditions, critical laboratory results, and other pertinent findings.
- Delegate tasks to other team members, as needed, to meet patient care needs in an efficient and effective manner.
- Contribute to discharge planning to provide information for timely discharge and appropriate continuity of care post hospitalization for the wound/ostomy patient.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum: Associate of Science from an accredited school of Nursing
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science from and accredited school of nursing
- Minimum: One (1) year as a registered nurse
- Registered Nurse eligible to practice in the state of Indiana
- Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
Preferred
- Associates or better in Nursing
- Bachelors or better in Nursing
Required
- Registered Nurse
- BLS- Basic Life Support
