What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Technician - HOSPITAL position at RiverValley Behavioral Health?
Looking for a hands-on role where you can make an impact every day? As a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT), you’ll work directly with children and adolescents to build communication, social, and daily living skills using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This opportunity is well-suited for candidates with backgrounds as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), ABA Therapist, Mental Health Technician, or Youth Counselor.
Throughout the day, you’ll lead and support structured programming designed to promote skill development and positive behavior. You’ll provide 1:1 and group instruction, respond to behaviors in real time using de-escalation techniques, and reinforce progress through consistent support. Collaboration with nursing and clinical staff is key to ensuring effective, individualized care.
You’ll also help create an engaging environment by facilitating activities, supporting routines like meals and hygiene, and encouraging independence in daily tasks. This is an active, team-oriented role that requires energy, patience, and adaptability.
Core Day Shift Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and group instruction based on the ABLLS-R curriculum and individualized behavior intervention plans.

Teach essential skills in communication, academics, and social interaction to help patients achieve person-centered goals.

Monitor for mood and behavior changes, utilizing de-escalation training to manage challenging situations in real-time.

Plan and execute structured activities for patients during non-scheduled times in coordination with Recreation Therapy staff.

Assist patients with daytime routines, including mealtime, grooming, and bathing, while fostering independence.

Model the RVBH mission through daily communication with the SBA and nursing team regarding patient progress and treatment adjustments.
Schedule & Requirements:

12-hour rotating shifts (6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.) including every other weekend.

High School Diploma/GED required.

Valid Driver’s License preferred.

1 year of direct care or ABA experience preferred.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 1 year of experience in ABA, behavioral health, direct care, or childcare preferred
- Experience with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, or emotional/behavioral disorders is a plus
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
Salary : $17 - $20
