Job Description
Riverton Contractors is seeking an experienced Pipelayer with 5 or more years of experience to join our growing team. You will work on site to develop land & install underground utilities for projects throughout South King and Pierce County. Key Responsibilities
As the primary pipelayer for the site crew, you will:
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction plans to accurately lay out pipeline routes.
- Install mainline and underground utility systems including water, sewer, and stormwater management systems
- Work with a variety of pipe materials including PVC, ductile iron, and HDPE
- Read & use specialty precision tools like pipe lasers, transit levels, & grade rods to ensure proper alignment and elevation
- Perform setting & finishing of underground concrete structures like manholes and vaults
- Measure, cut, fit, and finish pipe to project specifications
- Dig and backfill trenches per project, safety, and code specifications
- Support excavation and site preparation activities
- Operate hand tools & heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, excavators, backhoes, and offroad trucks to excavate trenches and prepare sites for pipeline installation.
- Maintain clean, productive & safe work sites while following all safety protocols and PPE requirements
- Assist with pipeline testing, inspection, and troubleshooting to ensure integrity of systems.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, engineers, jurisdictions & customers to complete the project timely and to specifications.
- Level U Certification preferred; competent person trench safety, confined space, and CPR certifications required (current training available)
Requirements
- 5 or more years of proven pipelayer experience preferred or in a similar heavy construction role with a focus on underground utility installation.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation including dozer, loader, backhoe, excavator, forklift, offroad trucks, and compactors.
- Skilled in blueprint reading, pipe laser alignment, utility types, and codes.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required — job sites span South King and Pierce Counties
- Physical strength and stamina for year-round, labor-intensive outdoor work while maintaining safety standards
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, kneel, and work outdoors for extended periods
- Strong critical thinking, math skills, and construction safety knowledge
- Dependable, punctual collaborator with a willingness to learn and take direction
- Level U Certification preferred but not required
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening (safety-sensitive position)
Equipment Experience
Experience with heavy equipment and construction hand tools related to pipelaying is required. We will build on your existing skill set and train you on our systems, tools, and equipment. Our comprehensive training program is designed to help you advance your career in this specialized field.
