Summary:

Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school and must have successfully completed an accredited residency training program in Psychiatry. Candidates must hold a current, active, and unrestricted California medical license and be board certified in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. The candidate must also possess and maintain a current DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate. Candidates must have CPR (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation. A minimum of three to five years of experience in an outpatient mental health clinical setting is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the use of computer programs and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. The position requires strong analytical and deductive reasoning skills to effectively evaluate patient statements and clinical presentations. Candidates must also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and people management abilities. The Psychiatrist will diagnose, assess, and treat mental illnesses using the appropriate combination of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, medication, and chemical imbalances that lead to mental disorder.  This position is also responsible for supporting mental health care provided by primary care providers and CD counselors treating patients in RSBCIHI community health clinics.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate patient data and test or examination findings to diagnose nature and extent of mental disorder
  • Prescribe, direct, and administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders
  • Collaborate with primary care physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, alcohol and CD counselors or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.   • Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals.
  • Counsel outpatients and other patients during office visits
  • Examine or conduct laboratory or diagnostic tests on patient to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorder.
  • Advise and inform guardians, relatives, and significant others of patients' conditions and treatment.
  • Review and evaluate treatment procedures and outcomes with medical professional
  • Design individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments
  • Teach, conduct research, and publish findings to increase understanding of mental, emotional, and behavioral states and disorders
  • Prepare and submit case reports and summaries to government and mental health agencies
  • Use the EHR tracking system to document recommendations for treatment and / or    referrals so that they can be easily shared with PCPs and other treating providers
  • Ensure that all protected health information in local computer/networks is stored in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Serve on committees to promote and maintain community mental health services and delivery systems.
  • This Position will attend medical and BHS meetings to coordinate communication and planning between BHS and Medical.
Qualifications:

Education:                           

Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school and must have successfully completed an accredited residency training program in Psychiatry.

 

Experience:

Two years of experience in an ambulatory care psychiatric practice setting preferred.

 

Certification:

Must possess and maintain a current and unrestricted:

  • California medical license 
  • Drug Enforcement Administration Controlled Substance Registration Certificate
  • Board certified in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Current CPR (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation.

License

California Driver’s License with a safe driving record, DMV record required. Must be insurable by the program’s insurance carrier. 

           

Ability to:     

Build rapport and establish a strong therapeutic working relationships with patients and staff. Manage care activities and reprioritize workload as needed. Work as part of a patient care team. Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.

 

Physical Demands:

The assignment will be carried out in an outpatient behavioral health clinic setting.  There is some infrequent exposure to unstable and/or hostile patients.  Most time is spent sitting with some intermittent walking and standing. The incumbent will be required to assist patients who are frail or disabled. Driving will be required between clinics.

 

Appointment Type: 

Full-Time, Non-Exempt

 

Compensation:

$00.00–$00.00 per hour ($320,000 – $337,000 annually, depending on experience and internal equity) 

 

Clinic Location: Soboba Clinic as assigned, travel required.
