Overview
Develops and maintains effective and efficient health information systems and networks. Optimizes accuracy of the medical record as a medicolegal document that meets accreditation, licensing and reimbursement requirements. Develops, interprets and applies organization's policies, budgets and long-range plans for Health Information Management facilities, equipment and personnel.
Essential Duties
- Actively participates in designing, implementing and updating automated health information systems.
- Assists in maintaining a sound corporate compliance program.
- Collaborates to improve the effectiveness and availability of health information.
- Develops and manages department capital and operating budgets.
- Educates users to provide a clear understanding of the requirements for timely, adequate and accurate documentation.
- Establishes and monitors productivity and quality standards for essential department functions.
- Establishes facility policies for the retention, release and confidentiality of health information.
- Manages all operations, services schedules, programs and projects in the Health Information Management Department.
- Manages and provides leadership in financial matters regarding budgeting and cost control and revenue generation.
- Participates and contributes to assigned committees, teams, task forces, including community service if applicable.
- Provides leadership and direction for improving patient/customer satisfaction and ensuring quality patient care.
- Serves as corporate privacy officer for HIPAA-related functions.
- Updates health information activities and systems to assure that data meet institutional needs and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Required Experience
- Minimum three years management experience in the Health Information Management Department of a mid- to large-sized acute care facility in the last five years
- Management of all major functions in the Health Information Management Department
Required Licensure/Education
- Master's degree in healthcare or business administration required.
Preferred Education
- Registered health information administrator (R.H.I.A.), preferred.
