What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Program Director position at Riverside Hawks?
DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Program Director is a unique and highly visible role across the entire organization. The APD will report to the Program Director and help implement the community-focused initiatives of the Riverside Hawks program. The Associate Program Director will also work directly with the Director of Athletics and Academics and play a leadership role in helping to manage all of the academic initiatives. The Associate Program Director will also help administer many of the fundraising and donor development efforts and work directly with the Director of Operations and members of the Board of Directors on special fundraising projects. Detailed descriptions of the responsibilities are summarized below.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Energetic with a strong personal commitment to the mission of the program and the educational advancement of underserved youth.
- Possesses creative and strategic thinking skills that enable a demonstrated ability to develop, evaluate, prioritize and implement projects.
- Excellent oral and written presentations skills, detailed oriented and the ability to convey our program mission and goals persuasively.
- Ability to work with senior program leaders and different internal and external constituents to ensure the successful implementation of initiatives.
- Prior grant writing and/or program evaluation experience (not needed but would be a plus).
RESPONSIBILITES:
Community Programming
- Work with our Program Director to enhance and strengthen our existing community programs: Saturday Night Lights, Leadership Academy, Mt. Sinai SWAG program, Arise! programming. Responsibilities include coordinating and enhancing our initiatives with our community partners
- Work with Program Director in leading and managing Saturday Night Lights Program, Leadership Academy, Arise! programming, NYPD partnerships, and other community focused initiatives
- Work with Program Director on developing and maintaining relationships with current and potential community partners, like the West Harlem Development Corporation, Columbia University, NYPD 26th/28th Precincts and Youth Strategies Division, The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, SYEP, Mt. Sinai Hospital and the DYCD.
- Work with Program Director on communicating community events to relevant youth and coordinating participation.
- Stay abreast of community activities in the Harlem community and distribute event and resource information to the Riverside Hawks students and extended families.
Academic Programming
- Work with our Director of Athletics and Academics to enhance our academic programming. Responsibilities include coordinating and enhancing our initiatives with our academic partners. Analyze results of our programs. Work to help us reach a larger number of our student athletes that are on teams or involved in our community programs.
- Coordinate various compnents of the education program, including (i) admissions exam preparation (i.e. SSAT, SAT, ACT, TACHS etc), (ii) homework assistance, (iii) tutoring programs, (iv) career exploration and (v) providing middle school and high school (catholic, public, prep and boarding school) and college application assistance, in all cases for students that are on teams or involved in our community programs.
- Manage the Program’s relationships with its education partners, such as Inspiring Young Minds and others.
General Programming
- Develop and maintain the registration forms for Baby Hawks, Saturday Night Lights, Leadership Academy, basketball programming, ensuring all data is collected.
- Organize and analyze collected data to synthesize program population statistics.
- Coordinate and assist in tracking of graduates and alumni.
Academic and Community Program Evaluation:
- Works with senior staff to (i) ensure that all academic reports are submitted and maintained and (ii) organize data indicating how Riverside Hawk student athletes are performing academically.
- Help implement, and establish mechanisms to track success of, academic and community programming initiatives.
- Develop and maintain records (including report cards) of each student in the program and maintain an updated database of all educational activities.
- Develop and maintain regular periodic reports for parents and coaches regarding the students’ educational progress.
- Manage Riverside Hawks’ compliance with requirements set by education and community program funding sources.
Fundraising/Development Support:
- Assist with development of funding sources and grant writing, drawn from variety of resources such as private donations, corporations, endowments, family offices and foundations.
- Organize and maintain database of major donors (prior gifts of more than $500).
- Coordinate regular communications with donors including preparation and circulation of monthly newsletter and periodic mailings of information about activities of the Riverside Hawks to Board members and other major supporters.
- Work with corporate sponsors and grant funders to ensure program compliance with terms of sponsorship arrangements and grants.
- Work with Board, Junior Board and senior staff on coordination and execution of special fundraising events.
