Company Description Riverside Art Museum (RAM) is a dynamic cultural institution with two locations in Riverside, California, a city recognized for arts and innovation. Since 1967, RAM has operated from a historic 1929 Julia Morgan-designed building, and in 2022 expanded to The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture, housed in a rehabilitated mid-century former public library. Together, these sites offer high-quality exhibitions and art education programs that engage, inspire, and build community, fostering a lifelong appreciation of the arts.


The Marketing and Communications Manager leads all marketing and communication efforts for the Riverside Art Museum inclusive of the “Cheech”, ensuring a strong presence within the community and beyond. The Marketing Manager will plan, organize, lead, and execute all marketing, communications, branding, and advertising efforts to promote the museum's mission, drive revenue, and support various initiatives, including strategic. This includes creating and maintaining strong relationships with media and digital media influencers, hiring and managing marketing and communications staff, analyzing market research and data, and managing annual budgets. Key activities involve developing engaging marketing promotions and securing media coverage, driving for exhibitions, programming, special events, membership, fundraising events, and fee-for-service initiatives like classes, facility rentals, and retail.

Core Responsibilities

·       With the Board of Trustees and staff, participate in the strategic planning and execution of the plan with the organization and regularly share updates and progress made on plan with staff and trustees.

·       Create an annual and long-term marketing and communications plan that drives revenue, promotes the museums programming, exhibitions, events and brand locally, regionally and nationally and regularly share updates and progress made on plan with staff and trustees.

·     Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, partners, media, and digital media influencers to enhance the museum's visibility.

·       Manage and support departmental staff and external consultants.

·     Responsible for the execution of website maintenance and updates, digital media, content creation, and all marketing requests, including digital, print, advertising, website, retail to implement marketing and communications plans. 

·      Manage partnerships and campaigns with key stakeholders, including negotiating and implementing advertising plans across film, radio, print, outdoor, indoor and additional platforms to enhance museum’s visibility and reach.

·     Develop and monitor a marketing reporting function to track, measure and analyze brand performance and audience awareness, aiming to improve guest experience and engagement.

·      Draft, edit and review marketing copy for various mediums (print, digital, radio, and TV) to promote museum programs, including exhibitions and fundraising events.

·     Oversee the creation and distribution of marketing content, including press releases, newsletters, promotional material, and print communications, ensuring quality and consistency with organizational brand standards. 

·       Draft media releases

·       Proactively coordinate with museum departments to align marketing efforts with organizational goals.

·      Outreach and manage contracts with public relations firms, design firms, information technology firms, digital media influencers, filmmakers, networks, graphic designers and others.

·       Staff liaison to the board’s Marketing and Communications Committee.

·       Represent the museum at public events, meetings, and interactions with partners to foster support and collaboration.

·       Enforce safety policies and museum procedures across the organization.

·       Assist with day-of-event support.


Qualifications

·       A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field is preferred.

·       Ability to manager several ongoing projects at a time and meet deadlines

·       Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a senior marketing and communications role, preferably in a non-profit, art museum or cultural organization.

·       Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with the community, stakeholders, partners, media, and digital media influencers to enhance the museum’s visibility and reach.

·       Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about marketing, communications, and museum industry best practices.

·       Proven ability to create and lead comprehensive strategic marketing and communication plans to support the organization’s mission and goals.

·       Knowledge in digital marketing, including proficiency in web design and development, digital branding, social media, and understanding best practices

·       Excellent internal and external communication skills, making information accessible for others to understand. 

·       Analytical skills for understanding trends and patterns to support the organization’s engagement. 

·       Excellent writing, editing, and copy-editing skills with published experience; preference for visual arts content.

·       Demonstrated success in media relations, including writing and pitching articles.

·       Understanding Latinx/Chicanx and other BIPOC histories, customs, and cultures to inform meaningful marketing strategies and communicate clearly about the organization’s mission. 

·       Ability to be flexible, manage sudden change, and move forward effectively and efficiently. 

·       Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, WordPress, social media tools, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, and CRM systems.

·       Experience in donor cultivation and understanding of philanthropy.

·       Ability to sit for a long period of time.

·       Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

·       Successful completion of a background check.
