What are the responsibilities and job description for the SONYC Group Leader (Part Time) position at Riverdale Neighborhood House?
The Group Leader provides good sound supervision and leadership for all SONYC participants. The
Group Leader plans and facilitates daily club activities with Program Director and or Education
Specialist while helping to support the emotional, social, and physical development of children in
grades 6-8. This position requires a creative, energetic, self-motivated team player with a passion
towards making a positive impact in our community.
Major/Minor Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand and implement program expectations, policies, and protocols to ensure a safe and
- respectful environment in alignment with agency, school, and funder protocols and guidelines.
- Create and implement effective and interesting age-appropriate lesson plans and curriculum
- that adhere to program goals.
- Collaborate with after school staff around themes and special projects and take supervision
- and direction from the Educational Specialist, Program Director and Program Assistant.
- Communicate with Program Director and Program Assistant about any schedule and classroom
- modifications, behavioral, or environmental issues.
- Role model and demonstrate appropriate communication with all stakeholders of the program
- (participants, families, teachers and staff).
- Assist participants in homework and provide them with tools to succeed in school.
- Assist with the organization and implementation of special events, activities, and projects.
- Ensure safety of all participants.
- Create a nurturing and fostering atmosphere to learn and create a sense of belonging for
- participants.
- Secure classrooms and space used, at the end of program.
- Attend scheduled staff meeting and complete professional development hours indicated at the
- time of hiring.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; stand, lift (no
- more than 20 pounds), bend, climb, walk, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor(s).
Qualifications
- Successful Background check and State Central Registry clearances required.
- College degree or currently enrolled in college preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience working with children.
- Commitment to young people and an understanding of the factors affecting their lives
- An ability to establish good relationships with a range of people
- Must be friendly, patient, tolerant and flexible.
- Physical abilities. (Standing, lifting, bending, climbing, walking, etc.)
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 3:00pm – 6:00 pm
Compensation and Benefits: This hourly part time position. Hourly rate: $18 per hour.
