Riverdale's robotics team, Pandemonium, is seeking a new assistant coach. This team has been growing steadily more successful and is well-established, with consistent volunteers and stable funding. The previous coach is still with the District and is committed to helping provide a smooth transition for the incoming coach.

Work with an established and dedicated group of volunteer mentors to guide the Riverdale FRC Robotics team to the competition.

A successful team needs well-chosen and well-prepared student captains, a focused group of student members willing to learn and teach each other, sufficient funding, quality mentorship, and adequate meeting time to design, build, and test a robot during the Robotics Competition season.

A successful assistant coach needs:

  • The ability to maintain a safe working environment for everyone;
  • Excellent skills working with high school students;
  • The ability to help those mentors help the students without taking over;
  • The ability to organize the students and help them understand the scope and sequence of the project as well as reach important benchmarks along the way;
  • The ability to help students learn how to lead each other, how to accept their mistakes and disappointments without giving up, and how to find the ways they can contribute best;
  • The ability to work with the community to recruit mentors and helpers and secure needed finances.

This is a two-trimester position with activities generally divided up as follows:

Winter (Build Season):

  • Learn the rules of the year's game along with the rest of the team
  • Run meetings for building the robot and preparing for the competition
  • Assure safety and request purchases for the team as needed
  • Work with mentors to guide students through the design-and-build process

Spring (Competition and Postseason):

  • Organize competitions
  • Guide students through the competitions
  • Celebrate the season
  • Conduct postseason cleanup
  • Evaluate finances and prepare for the next year
