POSITION SUMMARY:
Instructs students (kindergarten and first grade) in required content areas (reading, English, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, vocational, and ESOL courses). May be designated according to subject matter/content specialty. Utilizes current strategies and theories to plan and implement lessons. This position reports to the Principal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructs students, using various teaching methods, such as lecture, audiovisual aids, demonstration, and other materials to supplement presentations relative to a specific content field.
Assigns lessons and corrects homework; administers tests to evaluate students’ progress, records results, and informs parents of students’ progress. Maintains discipline in the classroom. Supervises behavior outside the classroom (i.e., halls, bus, lunch/cafeteria, rest room).
Prepares course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
Conducts parent/teacher conferences to review students’ progress, performance, and behavior problems. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and required teacher professional learning that will occur during the summer, after school hours, and some Saturdays during the school year.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor degree or higher in Education required, related to grade level and content area.
Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience preferred.
Makes recommendations or decisions that usually affect the entire department/school.
GaPSC certification in Elementary Education P-5 at T4 level or higher and content area specialization as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
*GaPSC Birth to Kindergarten certification is acceptable for kindergarten positions.
CPR/First Aid required.
Decision Making: Varied; supervisor is available to review established broad objectives; independent judgment is required.
Requires regular, frequent communication with internal school administrative personnel.
Requires regular, frequent communication with various stakeholders (external agencies, parents, community etc.)
Excellent classroom management required. May be designated as a lead teacher or trainer.
Applies, recommends, and implements technology to improve the effectiveness of school operations.
Responsibility for the Welfare of Others: Constant (Daily)
Normal classroom/school setting.
Must be able to stand and walk up to 8 hours per day. Light duty - Intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.
