Position Overview
Riverdale’s Science Department seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative teacher of Science with interest and expertise in Upper School Psychology, complemented by experience in an additional branch of Science such as Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics. Our Science program aims to develop citizen scientists who can effectively engage with scientific information in their personal and civic lives, to address real-world problems, and to make responsible decisions. Our students actively learn and apply the methods scientists use to investigate, analyze and communicate ideas about natural and physical phenomena. Our ideal candidate demonstrates an interest in interdisciplinary learning, experience with curricular design, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with young people both inside and outside the classroom.
Our website offers an overview of our Middle School and Upper School Science curriculum. In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty participate in the life of the school community through advising, leading activities, service learning, and other co-curricular programs. \n- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, etc) from an accredited college or university.
- At least 3 years of experience teaching at the Middle and/Upper School level.
- Ability to effectively engage students in inquiry-based practices through the use of laboratory work, projects, and hands-on activities.
- Effective pedagogical strategies for developing enduring understandings of essential content and skills, in order to become scientifically literate citizens.
- Strong commitment to student support, aligned with Riverdale’s “high challenge, high support” ethos.
- A commitment to ongoing professional growth.
