Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility using tools like Hoyer lifts and other assistive devices.
- Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; document findings accurately in electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Support medical procedures by preparing patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and assisting with medication administration under supervision.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, including memory care strategies and behavioral health support.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care in settings such as acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, or outpatient clinics.
- Maintain patient safety by adhering to HIPAA regulations, infection control protocols, and proper medical documentation standards.
- Assist with transfers and positioning using equipment like Hoyer lifts or wheelchairs to prevent injury and promote comfort.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in accordance with state regulations.
- Experience working in diverse healthcare environments such as hospitals (including ICU, trauma centers, PICU), nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home care.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS).
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks or similar platforms for accurate documentation.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities or behavioral health needs; experience in dementia or Alzheimer's care is highly valued.
- Demonstrated compassion and excellent communication skills to provide patient-centered service across age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics.
