Title: Director of Finance

Program: Administration

Reports to: Executive Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Classification: Full-time

Position Summary: Oversee and manage the agency's financial operations and accounting department and serve as a member of the agency's executive management team.

Essential Functions

  • Direct the day-to-day accounting operations of the agency.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual agency financial audit.
  • Develop the framework for the agency accounting system.
  • Provide management of the accounting department and staff.
  • Draft and oversee the agency's financial policies and procedures.
  • Remain stationary 50% of the time.

Marginal Functions

  • Keep food and labor cost on file for CACFP.
  • Compile and submit reports within established timelines.
  • Respond to any inquiries and return messages within a timely manner.
  • Participate in all required committees, conferences, meetings and training relevant to the program and/or agency.
  • Participate in ongoing monitoring and continuous improvement activities.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to foster collaboration and teamwork within the program, agency, and with external stakeholders.
  • Remain aware of emerging trends and best practices relevant to assigned program/project.

  • Ability to think critically.
  • Work collaboratively.

Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in accounting or business administration.

Experience

  • Required: Three (3) years of non-profit accounting.
  • Preferred: Managerial experience.

Employment Conditions

  • Successfully clearing the background check process, which may include: criminal background check, education verification, references, drug testing, motor vehicle records, sex offender registry, Child Protective Services check, and federal grants debarred list.
  • Able to travel as needed.
  • Business casual apparel.
  • Adhere to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Code of Ethics.

Environmental Conditions

  • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to temperature changes at least fifty percent (50%) of the time.
  • Prolonged sitting at a desk viewing a computer screen and keyboard typing.
  • Frequent face-to-face, electronic, and virtual interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Public contact position.
  • This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week following a successful 90-day review.

Physical Demands

  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
