What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Aide position at River's Edge Childcare Center?
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing high-quality care and education in the classroom. This role helps maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that promotes the development of children in alignment with Iowa Early Learning Standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and implementing daily lesson plans and activities.
- Supervise children and actively participate in classroom activities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
- Communicate with parents as directed and assist with conferences.
- Complete daily observations and contribute to child evaluations.
- Provide positive guidance for children’s behavior.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Director.
Professional Growth and Development
- Complete required Iowa HHS training within the first three months of employment:
- Mandatory Reporter Training for child abuse.
- At least one hour of Universal Precautions training (OSHA standard).
- Pediatric CPR certification (infant, child, adult) and pediatric first aid certification.
- Maintain current certifications and complete annual continuing education as required by Iowa HHS.
Health and Safety Requirements:
- Complete a staff physical examination within 6 months of employment.
- Provide documentation of a TB test as required by Iowa HHS.
- Fingerprinting and background checks prior to employment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to meet Iowa HHS requirements for childcare staff.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift at minimum 30 lbs. routinely.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to temperature changes, humidity, odors, and infectious conditions.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with staff and families.
