Summary:
The High School Staff assists classroom teachers by supporting activities, supervision, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. This role provides an opportunity to learn about early childhood education while helping ensure quality care for children.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with playtime, crafts, reading, and outdoor activities.
- Help maintain classroom cleanliness and organization.
- Model positive behavior and interactions with children.
- Follow all safety and confidentiality guidelines.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Lead Teacher.
Professional Growth and Development
- Complete required Iowa HHS training within the first three months of employment:
- Mandatory Reporter Training for child abuse.
- At least one hour of Universal Precautions training (OSHA standard).
- Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.
- Essentials Child Care Pre-Service or equivalent health and safety training.
- Maintain current certifications and complete annual continuing education as required by Iowa HHS.
Health and Safety Requirements:
- Complete a staff physical examination within 6 months of employment.
- Provide documentation of a TB test as required by Iowa HHS.
- Fingerprinting and background checks prior to employment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old and enrolled in high school.
- Interest in working with young children and learning about early childhood education.
- Ability to follow directions and maintain professionalism.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. routinely.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to temperature changes, humidity, odors, and infectious conditions.
