Overview
We are seeking a friendly and knowledgeable Aquarium/Aquatics Sales Associate to join our retail team. This role involves assisting customers with their aquatic needs, maintaining store aquariums, receiving and unpacking deliveries of aquarium livestock, occasional lifting of heavy items, and ensuring an engaging shopping experience. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, retail sales experience, and a passion for aquatic life. Previous aquarium experience not necessary, will train the right individual. Pay will be reflective of previous experience. Room to grow! This is a new company and passion and drive is a huge plus. The Sales Associate plays a vital role in maintaining an organized sales floor, managing stock, and delivering exceptional customer service to both novice and experienced aquarium enthusiasts.
Duties
- Assist customers in selecting aquatic products, including fish, tanks, and accessories
- Maintenance of store aquariums to include scraping and cleaning glass, getting your hands wet, receiving and unpacking aquarium livestock and dry goods deliveries, potential exposures to chemicals used in livestock quarantine, ozone, and bleach.
- Operate POS systems efficiently for sales transactions, cash handling, and refunds
- Upsell complementary products to enhance customer satisfaction and increase sales
- Maintain merchandising standards by stocking shelves, organizing displays, and ensuring product availability
- Manage inventory levels through stock replenishment and accurate record keeping
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries with professionalism and courtesy
- Support the team with cashiering duties, including processing transactions accurately and handling cash with care
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the sales area to create a safe and inviting shopping environment
- Assist with training new team members or supervising staff when needed
Requirements
- Previous retail sales experience
- Familiarity with POS systems, cash handling, and retail math calculations
- Strong communication skills; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse customers
- Excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills to handle inquiries professionally
- Ability to upsell products effectively while maintaining a customer-focused approach
- Basic math skills for transactions and inventory management
- Supervising experience is desirable but not required; leadership qualities are appreciated
- Passion for aquatic life or familiarity with aquarium products is beneficial but not mandatory
