Position Overview:
As a Behavioral Health Technician/Individual Support Worker, you will play an essential role in supporting individuals within their homes or residential settings. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor and document client behavior, and provide training in personal, social, academic, or vocational skills. Duties may also include assisting with meal preparation, Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), and providing transportation.
This role requires adaptability, compassion, and consistency in meeting the unique needs and preferences of the individuals served. Your support significantly enhances the quality of life and independence of each person.
Day staff are expected to attend a monthly center staff meeting when individuals are not present, as well as a quarterly Day Team Member meeting from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Caseloads are assigned based on the needs of the individuals served and may vary or change unexpectedly. Some team members will provide 1:1 support to individuals with more intensive needs, while others may support those who are active in the community or require more hands-on care.
Location/Schedule
60 Highway 22 West, Milledgeville, GA. Sunday-Saturday 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am and Every Other Weekend.
Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction and guidance on daily living skills in individual or group settings.
- Counsel individuals on behavioral concerns, basic decision-making, and resolving minor issues.
- Observe, monitor, and document client behavior and incidents.
- Deliver personal care and support to individuals in their homes daily.
- Plan, purchase, and prepare meals, including special diets as needed.
- Provide transportation to appointments and community activities.
- Monitor the self-administration of medications.
- Document observations and services provided in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) at the end of each shift.
- Relocate to another site if required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered).
- At least 18 years of age.
- Valid state driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of behavioral observation, client assistance, individualized service plans, and documentation requirements.
- At least six months of experience as a sitter/companion in a healthcare setting (preferred).
- Experience in Behavioral Health (Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health, or Substance Abuse).
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- Strong comprehension and ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong reading comprehension.
- Demonstrates effective conflict-resolution skills.
