Distribution Overhead Groundman

Job Title: Groundman- Overhead

Department: Operations

Reports To: Overhead Foreman

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week.

Location: Fishersville, VA

Position Purpose:

The Overhead Groundman position is your first step to a rewarding career in the construction and maintenance of our nation's Power Grid. You will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist fellow line-workers in meeting project goals

• Join storm restoration efforts in times of need

• Follow company safety rules and policies while performing new construction or maintenance of energized high voltage systems and de-energized overhead work

• Inspect rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and wear it properly.

• String overhead wire, set poles and anchors

• Help install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, cross-arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear

• Help replace fuses in transformers and clear faulty circuits and systems

• Maintain and operate company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order

• Perform rigorous physical labor

• Use company radio

• Understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying

• Receive and follow directions

• Have a basic knowledge of materials used in line work

• Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit

• Perform basic bucket rescue/escape

• Work at heights and confined spaces

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you talk and hear. The job frequently requires you to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. An employee performs this position in outside-weather conditions.

• Understanding of the minimum approach distance

Required Qualifications:

• Must have Valid Driver's License.

• Able to travel long distances at short notice.

• Work for extended periods in multiple locations.

• Able to lift an excess of 50 lbs.

• Willing to work overtime when requested.
