Job Title: Overhead General Foreman
Department: Operations
Reports To: Project Manager/Construction Manager
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Pay Range: $63.00-$68.00
Work Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week.
Location: Cambridge, MD onsite
Position Purpose:
The Overhead General Foreman will manage crews involved in the execution of the installation, construction and maintenance of overhead electric distribution and service lines. Additionally, they will oversee the installation, construction and maintenance of transformers, meters, metering equipment, electrical substations, and related equipment.
The General Foreman will ensure that crews work safely and train, submit accurate time records, complete and submit required forms and documentation, and coordinate resources.
This position requires extensive knowledge of overhead electrical distribution systems, management of multiple crews, distribution trouble shooting, management of storm crews, scheduling of crews, and coordinating resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety
- Is familiar with OSHA Standards 269 and 1926 subpart V.
- Promote and comply with company safety procedures.
- Perform Field Safety Audits.
- Ensure crews are trained in how to conduct a pre-job briefing.
- Can conduct safety meetings with them
- Maintain a safe working environment for all employees under them
Production
- Read blueprints and interpret customer specifications
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, job prints, and comprehend scope of work.
- Organize crews so they can complete assigned tasks.
- Is qualified to oversee gloving on all voltages up to 40
- Can oversee the operation of a material handler bucket truck and an auger truck
- Can oversee the set-up and operation of all wire pulling equipment.
- Know all basic transformer hook-ups Wye and Delta (single and three phase).
- Can oversee the cover-up of the work zone for the work
- Excellent knowledge of rigging and wire pulling tools.
- Know the applications of all connectors and sleeves used on
- Can oversee the setting of poles in an energized
- Can oversee the phasing of circuits and checking of
- Can oversee the restoration of service and troubleshooting of problems during
- Can oversee building and replacing plant to meet customer specifications
- Can fill out a WMIS as-built
- Communicate and Work with Customer Oversites and customers.
- Can supply scheduling with crews' capability on a regular
- Schedule work to the crews and meets the requested completion dates.
Supporting Functions
- Assist Foreman.
- Maintain and submit Time Sheets for crew members.
- Mentor junior employees and support their continued professional and technical development.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment are driven and operated.
- Use a personal computer (PC) and iPad to complete reports and access email.
- Prepare crew performance appraisals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Storm Restoration
- Ability to travel and work during Storm Restoration efforts. This may require extended travel periods to multiple locations.
Physical Demands
Work involves moderate physical exertion and heavy lifting. It also involves exposure to inclement weather, including extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. Additionally, the job poses hazardous conditions, such as working with high-voltage energized lines and equipment. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Identify and distinguish colors.
Work Environment
You will perform responsibilities in outside-weather conditions. You frequently expose yourself to inclement weather, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. Additionally, the employee is exposed to the hazardous conditions of working with energized high-voltage conductors and equipment. Employees may occasionally experience loud noises.
Minimum Requirements:
- Five to seven years as a journey-level lineman engaged in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of distribution electrical systems and three years of supervisory experience.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to travel and work for extended periods in multiple locations.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Background investigation and drug screen required.
