Patient Access Representative

Job Overview

As a Patient Access Representative, you’ll help patients navigate the administrative steps of receiving care. You’ll support front-desk operations, coordinate appointments, verify health insurance information, and maintain accurate records while protecting patient privacy. Duties

• Welcome patients, provide attentive patient service, and handle front-desk and medical receptionist tasks.
• Schedule appointments, communicate by phone with professionalism, and support medical administrative operations.
• Review documentation, insurance details, care plans, and medical records for completeness and accuracy.
• Enter and update information in electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems; maintain files and support health information management.
• Follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements and clinical confidentiality policies.

Skills

• Essential: Customer service, phone etiquette, typing, computer skills, Microsoft Office, clerical or administrative experience, and accurate filing.
• Preferred: Clinic, medical office, dental clinic, or medical billing experience; medical collection, scheduling, and health insurance knowledge.
• Familiarity with EMR/EHR Athenahealth is helpful.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9 and ICD-10), Medicare, and ICD coding is a plus.
• Bilingual ability, 10-key typing, medical office management, and electronic health records management experience are also valued.
