Rising Sun Development Center (RSDC) is a community development nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community well-being and long-term resilience through public health, economic development, youth development, food security, and sustainable agriculture.

RSDC works locally, nationally, and internationally with community-based organizations, NGOs, public agencies, and community partners to provide research, technical assistance, training, capacity building, and direct community support. Our approach combines research and policy-informed practice with culturally grounded, community-based action to help communities build on their strengths and create healthier, more sustainable futures.

RSDC is seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Impact Intern to gain hands-on experience across nonprofit programs and operations.

This is a multidisciplinary internship. Based on the intern’s skills, interests, academic background, and organizational needs, responsibilities may include:

• Food Security & Agriculture: Support the R.I.S.E. Come-Unity Garden and Aya Farms through garden management, food production, volunteer coordination, agricultural education, and food-security initiatives.
• Public Health & Research: Assist with research, community assessments, surveys, data collection, evaluation, policy research, reports, and presentations.
• Programs & Education: Support development and delivery of youth, family, public health, food security, and community education programs.
• Marketing & Communications: Assist with social media, content creation, photography/video, newsletters, outreach, website content, and documenting program impact.
• Events & Community Engagement: Help coordinate workshops, volunteer workdays, community events, fundraisers, and partner activities.
• Nonprofit Administration & Development: Support project coordination, databases, documentation, fundraising, grant research, partnerships, and day-to-day nonprofit operations.

Interns may work across multiple areas while taking greater responsibility in areas aligned with their professional interests.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to conduct basic research, organize information, and summarize findings
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Comfortable using standard office, spreadsheet, and presentation software
• Reliable, self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to take initiative
• Ability to work respectfully with diverse communities, volunteers, and organizational partners
• Interest in public health, nonprofit management, agriculture, sustainability, communications, research, youth development, or community development
• Willingness to participate in both office-based, garden-based, and community-based activities
• Current students, graduate students, recent graduates, and emerging professionals are encouraged to apply; related coursework or experience is preferred but not required

This internship provides practical experience beyond traditional administrative work. Interns will have opportunities to contribute to real community initiatives from planning through implementation and evaluation, develop portfolio-ready work, build professional relationships, and gain exposure to multiple aspects of nonprofit and community development.
