Counselor (Behavioral Health)

Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Compensation: $28–$45/hour (based on licensure & experience)
Position Overview
Heal Behavioral Health is seeking a compassionate, driven, and clinically strong Counselor to provide high-quality behavioral health services to individuals, families, and groups. This role is essential in supporting our mission to deliver accessible, culturally responsive, and outcome-driven care to our community.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient setting, experienced with diverse populations, and motivated to help grow a modern, community-based behavioral health program.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Services
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling services
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Deliver evidence-based interventions (CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, etc.)
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation (progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries)
Client Care & Coordination
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment as needed
- Coordinate care with case managers, physicians, probation officers, and referral partners
- Support clients involved in court-mandated or Medi-Cal programs
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all documentation meets Medi-Cal and regulatory standards
- Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
- Complete notes within required timelines (typically 24–72 hours)
Program Support
- Assist with group curriculum development
- Support intake and onboarding of new clients
- Contribute to a positive, client-centered clinic culture
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
- Registered or certified in California (e.g., AMFT, ACSW, APCC) or certified substance use counselor (CADC)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment
- Knowledge of Medi-Cal documentation requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred
- Licensed (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC)
- Experience with:
- Court-mandated programs (DV, anger management, DUI)
- Substance use disorders
- Group facilitation
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
