What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Sports Coach - Juvenile Justice Facility position at Rising Phoenix Sports Program?
Rising Phoenix Sports Program is seeking up to 2 coaches to support our sports program at Harriet Tubman Residential Center in Auburn, NY.
With the supervision of experienced Rising Phoenix coaches, new coaches will help lead practices in a variety of sports, facilitate reflection discussions, and foster a positive program environment for residents. Once they are comfortable leading practices, new coaches will be given the opportunity to design and implement their own practice plans.
Our coaches do not need to be all-star athletes or deeply knowledgeable of many sports, but volleyball experience is preferred. Instead, our coaches need to be open-minded, empathetic, adaptable, energetic, and able to keep a positive attitude when met with challenges. Our coaches work in teams to make sure they are supported during practices.
Hours per Week: 5
Schedule: Saturdays from 2:00pm-5:00pm
Pay: $20 / hour
Coaches must provide their own transportation to the facility. (Travel time is compensated if commute if over 30 minutes long.)

Rising Phoenix Sports Program is a sports-based youth development program for girls and gender-expansive youth in juvenile detention centers. We believe in the power of sports to help youth Rise Up from the adversity they’ve faced towards a brighter path ahead of them. Our multi-sport curriculum focuses on developing the leadership, resilience, social well-being, and emotional well-being of our athletes. We aim to use sports to reduce the recidivism, retraumatization, and revictimization of justice-involved girls .
