Job Summary
Early Head Start Visitors will deliver the Early Head Start program which promotes early literacy in children ages Birth to 3 years old to children and families. Using a gentle approach, Home Visitors model reading, playing, and conversation activities using early learn framework and educational toys to parents with their children in “play” sessions. Home visitor Coordinate with parents to ensure prenatal well-child exams, immunizations, health screenings, and nutrition assessments are complete and necessary follow-up occurs. Provide support in parent and child activities that encourage developmentally appropriate activities for the changing needs of infants and toddlers. .
Responsibilities
- Prepares and implements daily lesson plans/learning activities. Monitors children’s progress via developmental checklists and observation
· Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, which include families, Social Services staff, clinical consultants, treating therapists (as appropriate), etc.
· Individualize learning activities to meet the developmental needs of each child, including children with disabilities, by working with parents to develop individual goals.
· Conducts home visits to families once a week for 1.5 hours; conducts parent conferences three times per year.
· Responsible for written observations, weekly plans, and quarterly assessments.
· Assists families in developing family goals and provides needed referrals to assist in accomplishing the goals.
· Follows developmentally appropriate practices in interactions with children.
· Works on a smooth transition of all children into and out of Early Head Start. Creates a transition plan for all family childcare children above 2.5 years old.
Screens parents for eligibility based on program criteria and completes screening forms for review. Completes enrollment for eligible families
Experience
Minimum of Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate, Associate of Arts degree in related field; bachelor’s degree in early childhood education preferred
· Two - three years classroom teaching experience in an early childhood program
