What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Manager position at Rise Technical?
Engineering Manager (AI DevTool Start-Up)
$250,000 – $300,000 Equity Benefits PTO
On-site in San Francisco, CA
Are you an Engineering Manager who takes pride in building high-performing teams that ship reliably, at pace, without letting quality slip? Do you care deeply about the metrics that actually matter (on-time delivery, regression rates, incident response) and have the track record to prove you can move them in the right direction?
This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing, profitable startup at the forefront of AI infrastructure, leading the engineering team behind the world's most widely used LLM Gateway, a unified platform that enterprise customers like Adobe, Netflix, Stripe and NASA depend on in production.
Backed by top-tier investors and already profitable with 8-figure ARR ahead of their Series A, this is director-level scope with a direct line to the founder/CTO. The surface is genuinely large: 100 provider integrations, day-zero model launches, and a Rust migration in flight. You won't write all the code, but you'll own how the team ships, the quality bar they hold, and the enterprise relationships when things get difficult.
If you're looking for a role where your leadership directly drives platform reliability and enterprise trust, with strong equity in an already profitable company before their Series A, this is an outstanding opportunity.
The Role
- Own team execution (goals, accountability, release health, and a weekly quality sync)
- Drive consistent, well-architected code patterns across the team
- Own the technical roadmap with the CTO, including an ongoing Rust migration
- Run enterprise escalations end to end - clear plan, crisp updates, fast resolution
- Define headcount needs and own hiring to fill them
- Protect open-source adoption as the platform and team scales
The Person
- Proven EM track record - has managed and shipped through a team, not just alongside one
- Metrics-driven - has stood up and used reliability or productivity metrics to find and fix root causes
- Has demonstrably driven incident or regression rates down on a fast-moving production system
- Has built release processes or review cadences from scratch, with before/after numbers to show impact
- Has owned enterprise escalations and kept trust or retention intact
- CS or engineering background; startup experience essential, open-source experience a strong bonus
Salary : $250,000 - $300,000
