Job Description:
- Works the hours of 8:00 am- 4:00 pm Monday- Friday
- Between the hours of 8:00 am- 4:00: Daily schedule assigned by Nursing Coordinator: Such duties include, but not limited to: onsite RISE Academy nurse as needed, substitute for Clinic and SPED nurses; assist clinic nurses inputting data and with clinic duties.
Qualifications:
- Valid Alabama Nursing license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience; school nurse experience required
- Current CPR Certification for the Professional Rescuer
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Supervisor(s): Coordinator of Nursing & Administrator
Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5)- Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old. A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.
Student Safety & Security: Madison City Schools prioritizes a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and school faculties.
- Ability to use and implement computer technology programs.
Essential Functions:
- Provides nursing care for students requiring special health procedures such as but not limited to urinary catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, administration of emergency medication and nebulizer treatments
- Administers PRN and scheduled medication to assigned student in accordance with approved policy and procedures relating to medication
- Evaluates and provides care for students who present to the clinic for illness or injury
- Maintains proper and accurate documentation
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aide procedures
- Enforces the guidelines of the School District's health policies
- Contacts Coordinator of Nursing when unsure of specific procedure
- Contacts Administrator and Coordinator of Nursing regarding crisis situations in the school. This includes child abuse, threatened suicide, and accidents
- Maintains confidentiality of information as required by school policy
- Follows individualized health care plans for students with chronic diseases
- Communicates with parents/guardians, health care providers and staff, as appropriate
- Able to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Additional physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching
- Provide training and oversight to Rise Academy Unlicensed Medication Assistants per ALSDE and ABN Medication Curriculum.
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
Expected Employment: 187 days/8hrs. (full year)
Evaluation: Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
Salary Range: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year)
