The intern will assist with hands-on implementation of infrastructure projects on campus, gaining experience while supporting real-world initiatives that improve network reliability and security.
An example of a typical project would be:
- Implementing a new firewall to secure a specific network segment, including design, configuration, documentation, and testing.
- Perform a campus-wide Wi-Fi survey to measure coverage, identify dead zones, and recommend improvements for access point placement.
- Plan and implement access switch upgrades while validating device configurations against inventory records and updating documentation for accuracy.
- Desired Major: Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field
- Desired Class Year: Sophomore or Junior
- Desired Skills:
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, VLANs)
- Familiarity with common network services (DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, VPNs)
- Exposure to network security concepts (firewalls, ACLs, IDS/IPS, NAT)
- Experience using network troubleshooting tools (ping, traceroute, Wireshark, or similar packet capture tools)
- Basic hands-on experience with network device configuration (e.g., Cisco IOS, Palo Alto Pan-OS)
- Ability to follow and contribute to technical documentation
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
