Position Summary
This role is responsible for providing structural engineering expertise through the completion of complex portions of larger projects or the full design of smaller-scale assignments. The position involves close collaboration with project engineers and managers to develop and produce structural analyses, designs, and construction drawings for bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and other civil infrastructure projects. The selected candidate will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and landscape architects.
Salary Range: $95,000 – $120,000 annually, plus bonuses. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed structural calculations in compliance with applicable codes, design standards, and local regulations.
- Prepare engineering drawings and documents using the latest AutoCAD software in alignment with company standards and project procedures.
- Interpret and apply structural codes and standards to ensure accurate and compliant designs.
- Revise and update drawings and calculations based on project requirements and engineering direction.
- Develop project specifications, cost estimates, and summaries of quantities.
- Create visual exhibits and technical graphics for both internal coordination and client presentations.
- Manage assigned tasks to stay within established scope, schedule, and budget limits, communicating progress and potential variances proactively.
- Collaborate with team members to produce high-quality design and construction documents consistent with Ripple Effect Consulting and municipal standards.
- Support colleagues to meet project deadlines and assist with workload balancing across the team.
- Prepare supporting calculations, construction specifications, and permitting documentation for various agencies and jurisdictions.
- Conduct Level 1 quality assurance/quality control reviews of engineering work.
Required Competencies
- Proficiency with structural finite element and frame modeling software.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Capable of managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interpret broad project guidance and translate it into precise, technically sound plans.
- Skilled at managing design data and documentation from concept through construction.
Supervisory & Leadership Responsibilities
- Assign and coordinate tasks with junior engineers and design staff.
- Plan and oversee detailed aspects of engineering work under general supervision.
- Contribute to proposal development, contract preparation, and client relationship management.
- Assist in preparing scopes of work, schedules, and budget parameters for new and ongoing projects.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to developing team members.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering with a concentration in structural engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive structural engineering experience.
- Established knowledge of municipal, state, and federal design standards and criteria.
- Demonstrated experience with project or program management.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet company motor vehicle record (MVR) requirements.
