A RIOT summer program for middle school aged youth


RIOT Youth Rock Camp is a 5-day summer day camp for girls, trans, and gender-expansive youth

ages 11–14. Campers learn an instrument, form a band, write an original song, create band art,

participate in enrichment workshops, and perform at a final showcase for friends, family, and

fans. The program centers empowerment, identity exploration, creative expression, and

community-building — offering a transformative experience for youth at all musical skill levels.



POSITION OVERVIEW


RIOT is seeking a part-time, hourly Camp Coordinator to support the planning, preparation, and

execution of Youth Rock Camp 2027. The Camp Coordinator will work closely with the RIOT

Board to lead camp planning and logistics, co-design the daily schedule, identify workshop

facilitators, determine volunteer needs, and ensure all operational elements are in place ahead of

camp week. During camp week, the Camp Coordinator will oversee daily operations and

supervise a volunteer team of approximately 20–30 people, including band coaches, counselors,

workshop instructors, and gear/hospitality volunteers, to help deliver a safe, welcoming, and

empowering experience for all campers.


This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, youth-centered organizer who thrives in collaborative

environments, enjoys building community, and is excited to help create a joyful, identity-affirming

summer experience for middle school youth.


The Camp Coordinator reports directly to the RIOT Board of Directors.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • PLANNING & LOGISTICS — Lead camp planning with support from the RIOT Board, including scouting and securing camp and showcase locations, coordinating site visits, managing timelines, and ensuring all operational needs are in place before summer.
  • SCHEDULE & PROGRAM PREPARATION — Co-design the daily camp schedule with the Board; coordinate workshop and lesson needs; identify workshop facilitators; determine volunteer roles and daily staffing needs; ensure spaces, gear, and materials are prepared andaccessible.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT — Manage administrative tasks such as email communication, documentation, responding to family inquiries, and maintaining clear records throughout the planning process.
  • BUDGET OVERSIGHT — Work with the Board to refine and monitor the camp budget; track expenses; identify cost needs; surface logistical or financial considerations early.
  • VOLUNTEER COORDINATION — Manage communication, scheduling, and day-to-day coordination for 20–30 volunteers (coaches, counselors, workshop instructors, support teams). Recruitment support is shared with the Board.
  • CAMP WEEK LEADERSHIP — Lead daily operations during camp week, including staff huddles, safety checks, transitions, family communication, and on-the-ground decision-making; support showcase execution.
  • WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORTING — Provide weekly updates to the Board on planning progress, timelines, and emerging needs; report blockers early to ensure smooth preparation.
  • VALUES-BASED PRACTICE — Model trauma-informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive pedagogy; foster collaboration, creativity, and identity-affirming community-building throughout planning and camp week.



WHAT YOU BRING


REQUIRED

  • Ability to build and manage schedules — daily camp schedule, workshop blocks, volunteer assignments
  • Experience with basic budgettracking — logging expenses, monitoring categories, staying within limits
  • Proficiency with organizationaltools — Google Drive, Docs, Sheets; email management; shared calendars
  • Comfort coordinating logistics — room setups, gear needs, materials prep, space transitions
  • Ability to manage communication channels — email inboxes, volunteer updates, family

  • Experience organizing teams or volunteers — assigning roles, confirming shifts, tracking attendance
  • Ability to maintain documentation — notes, timelines, checklists, progress updates
  • Strong time-management skills — prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, staying ahead of needs
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational issues — last-minute changes, missing materials, schedule shifts


PREFERRED

  • Experience coordinating logistics for youth programs, camps, or arts-based events
  • Experience identifying or supporting workshop facilitators or instructors
  • Experience supervising volunteers across varied roles
  • Experience co-designing schedules, lesson plans, or program structures
  • Comfort anticipating logistical needs and troubleshooting emerging issues
  • Ability to play multiple instruments at a basic to intermediate level
  • Experience in community organizing, arts education, or youth development
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed, anti-racist, and gender-affirming practices


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to move between multiple rooms and work environments
  • Ability to lift musical equipment and supplies
  • Ability to support room setups, gear movement, and general camp logistics
  • Ability to participate in fast-paced program days with frequent activity changes



HOURS & COMPENSATION


  • Temporary contracted position at $30/hour from November 2026 to mid-Summer 2027
  • Hours — Total estimate of 170 hours

o ~4 hours/week during early planning months

o Increasing hours as camp approaches

o ~50 hours during camp week
