What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Drivers position at Rio Grande Community College?
The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College is seeking to establish a pool of available bus/van drivers to transport students in university-owned vehicles to-and-from sporting events and other activities. Individuals will be hired as independent contractors at a rate of $175 per day plus covered meals and lodging (for overnight travel).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Comply with traffic laws and general safety regulations
- Operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
- Follow safety rules as passengers are boarding and exiting vehicles
- Pick up and drop off passengers at locations according to schedules
- Report any vehicle malfunctions or needed repairs
- Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations
- Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order
- Maintain knowledge of first aid procedures
- Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions
- Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort
- Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, and fuel consumption
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement
- Must pass a background check and have a clean driving record
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and overnight stays
- Knowledge of local geography and the ability to arrive to destinations safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of all local and state laws related to proper driving regulations.
