Job Description – Production Welder I
Location: Pella, IA
Department: Welding
Reports To: Welding Manager
JOB SUMMARY
Welders will fabricate and assemble metal components for Ring-O-Matic equipment using various welding techniques. Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, setting up and operating welding equipment, and ensuring high-quality welds while adhering to safety standards. The ideal candidate will have experience with MIG welding, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read information from blueprints, technical manuals, or other documents.
- Set up fixtures, mount parts in fixtures, and perform mechanical assembly. o Includes using hand and air tools such as wrenches, torque wrenches, impact wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, etc.
- Move and position parts — sometimes with a hoist and sometimes manually. Parts typically weigh up to 25 pounds and can be as much as 50 pounds.
- Use a hoist to lift and position large, heavier components and completed weldments.
- Set up, adjust, and operate MIG welding equipment to weld machine components.
- Remove components from fixtures, clean and check them for quality, and correct errors or deficiencies of weldments.
- Through behavior and communication, maintain positive relationships with customers, clients, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Meet or exceed typical expectations for productivity, quality, attendance, and safety.
- Ability to work in a safe manner by always following safety guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Manufacturing plant conditions (indoors, no air conditioning, variable temperature, and humidity, noise, and dirt).
- Relatively high temperatures.
- Physical hazards such as powered vehicles, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, moving machinery, compressed air power supplies, and materials handling.
- Working with hazardous materials, including solvents, oils, grease, paint, and fuels.
- Workdays of up to 10 hours. Overtime, as necessary.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Have appropriate MIG welding experience (3 years) OR have completed a formal welding training program/certificate.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints is preferred.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Be able to handle items weighing over 50 pounds. This includes lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning components.
- Have appropriate mechanical skills, including experience using hand and air-powered tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, etc.).
- Have appropriate reading, clerical, and basic math skills.
- Candidates must be proficient in using a tape measure to accurately take and record measurements.
- Have a good work record, including indications of strong self-motivation, reliable attendance, attention to quality, ability to learn new skills, and a cordial, cooperative personality.
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to assess, evaluate, and carry out appropriate action for a given situation.
