Job Summary:
Ring-O-Matic, a leading manufacturer of vacuum excavators, is seeking a dynamic, results-driven and motivated Welding Utility worker to support our welding team in Pella, IA. The Welding Utility role involves assisting welders with material preparation, equipment setup, and basic welding tasks to ensure efficient production of industrial equipment. Key Responsibilities:
- Material Preparation: Cut, grind, and prepare metal components for welding using tools such as grinders, plasma cutters, and oxy-acetylene torches.
- Welding Support: Assist welders with setup, including positioning workpieces, clamping, and aligning components for fabrication.
- Basic Welding Tasks: Perform simple welding tasks (e.g., tack welding or basic MIG welding) under the supervision of experienced welders, as skill level permits.
- Learn All Welding Jobs: Actively train to become proficient in all welding processes used at Ring-O-Matic, including MIG and stick welding, to support various production needs.
- Assist with Training: Support the onboarding and training of new hires by demonstrating basic welding techniques, safety protocols, and material preparation processes under the guidance of senior welders or supervisors.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Inventory Assistance: Help track and organize welding materials, consumables (e.g., electrodes, wire, gas), and tools, reporting shortages to supervisors.
- Quality Control Support: Inspect workpieces for defects and assist with ensuring welds meet Ring-O-Matic’s quality standards.
- Safety Compliance: Follow workplace safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, gloves, and safety glasses.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with welders, fabricators, and other production staff to meet production schedules and project requirements.
- Documentation: Record basic information about tasks completed, materials used, and equipment maintenance as directed.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; enrollment in or completion of a welding course or vocational training program is a plus.- Experience: 5-10 years of experience in welding
- Leadership: 1-2 years of experience as a group leader or welding utility.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with basic welding processes (e.g., MIG, stick) and tools (e.g., grinders, torches); ability to read blueprints and schematics.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in various positions (e.g., bending, kneeling). Must be able to wear PPE, including welding helmets and respirators.
- Soft Skills: Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and ability to follow instructions; good communication and teamwork skills.
- Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain forklift certification is a plus.
