FOX13 Memphis is seeking a versatile, creative, and motivated Multimedia Journalist/Producer who is passionate about delivering meaningful local journalism.
This unique position combines two essential newsroom roles. The successful candidate will produce weekend newscasts and serve as a Multimedia Journalist three days a week, developing and reporting compelling stories that inform, engage, and make a difference in our community.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer, an independent thinker, and a collaborative team player who understands the importance of accuracy, urgency, and audience-focused journalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Write clear, conversational, and engaging scripts, headlines, teases, and transitions.
- Coordinate with anchors, reporters, assignment editors, and directors to execute successful broadcasts.
- Manage breaking news and developing stories, making quick and accurate editorial decisions under deadline pressure.
- Ensure all content meets the station's standards for accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity.
- Research, pitch, develop, and report original, enterprise-driven stories that matter to Mid-South communities.
- Independently shoot, write, edit, and deliver compelling news stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Develop reliable sources and cultivate relationships that lead to exclusive stories and meaningful coverage.
- Conduct interviews, verify information, and present complex issues in clear, understandable ways.
- Deliver engaging live reports and breaking news coverage when assigned.
- Meet deadlines while maintaining high standards for storytelling, accuracy, and production quality.
- Collaborate with newsroom leadership and colleagues to strengthen daily coverage.
- Write accurate and engaging digital stories that complement broadcast coverage.
- Use digital tools and audience insights to improve storytelling and audience engagement.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong news judgment, editorial decision-making, and storytelling abilities.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and conversational content.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
- Strong on-camera presentation skills and experience with live reporting.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt quickly during breaking news.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to accuracy, fairness, ethics, and responsible journalism.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and a flexible schedule based on newsroom needs.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Previous television news experience in producing, reporting, or multimedia journalism.
- Experience with nonlinear editing systems, newsroom computer systems, and digital publishing platforms.
Demonstrated ability to develop original story ideas and produce engaging news content
