Summary
A growing multifamily builder and developer is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to oversee accounting operations across a large pipeline of multifamily construction projects. This role is responsible for leading accounting processes, managing financial reporting, and supporting project teams across active ground-up developments.
The ideal candidate has strong construction accounting experience and hands-on knowledge of Sage accounting systems within a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations for construction and development projects
- Oversee monthly financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting
- Manage project accounting, job cost reporting, and WIP schedules
- Supervise AP, AR, payroll, and accounting staff
- Maintain and improve accounting procedures and internal controls
- Oversee project billing, lien releases, and subcontractor compliance
- Manage cash flow, forecasting, and financial reporting for leadership
- Ensure accurate cost coding and project financial tracking
- Work closely with operations and project teams on budgets and cost visibility
- Support audits, tax preparation, and year-end reporting
Requirements
- 10 years of accounting experience within construction required
- Strong Sage experience required
- Experience with multifamily or construction accounting strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, and project financials
- Experience leading accounting teams
- Knowledge of AP, AR, payroll, and financial reporting
- Strong Excel and accounting software skills
- CPA preferred but not required
