Position Overview:
This role involves performing clinical perfusion to support or treat the cardiopulmonary and circulatory systems during surgical procedures. The Perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during open-heart surgeries and other medical situations requiring cardiopulmonary support or replacement. They ensure proper management of physiologic functions by monitoring essential variables and troubleshooting equipment as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain cardiovascular perfusion, life support, and blood salvage equipment during surgeries.
- Monitor and manage physiologic variables to support patient stability and outcomes.
- Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain a variety of perfusion and electronic medical equipment.
- Support open-heart and surgical perfusion procedures with expertise and precision.
- Participate in on-call rotations, providing 24-hour coverage as required.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department policies.
- Training & Certification:
- For those trained after April 15, 1981, maintaining cardiovascular perfusion certification or eligibility for certification is required.
- Completion of clinical and didactic coursework from an accredited perfusion training program for those trained after April 15, 1981.
- Experience & Knowledge:
- Knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory systems, physiology, anatomy, and electronics.
- Experience in applying biology, chemistry, and physiology in a hospital operating room setting.
- Open-heart surgery and surgical perfusion procedure experience required.
- Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain perfusion and blood salvage equipment.
