Riley and Company, a well-established and respected small accounting firm in Stroudsburg, PA, is looking for a Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager to step into a pivotal leadership role. The Opportunity
This isn't a seat-filler role. We're looking for someone who wants to build something. You'll be the face of our tax practice — mentoring a small, talented team, deepening relationships with existing clients, and actively developing new business in the community. What makes us Unique
• 55 hours per week maximum total time (not billable) during busy season - February-April 15th
• Minimum 37.5 hours per week and a 45 maximum total hours per week in off-season.
• Flexible hours- we’re in the office during core hours of 10-3 to maximize collaboration opportunities. The rest of your time is up to you.
What You'll Do
Client Service & Tax Practice Leadership
• Oversee and review the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, trust, partnerships, S-corps, and closely-held businesses
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients — proactively bringing planning ideas, identifying tax-saving opportunities, and anticipating regulatory changes that affect their businesses
• Manage complex tax engagements from planning through delivery, maintaining accuracy, compliance, and exceptional client experience
• Support clients during audits and IRS/state notices, serving as their primary point of contact
Business Development & Community Engagement
• Actively participate in local business organizations, professional associations, and community events to build the firm's presence and generate referral relationships
• Develop and nurture relationships with attorneys, financial advisors, and other referral sources
• Identify and pursue new client opportunities that align with the firm's areas of strength
• Play a direct role in the growth strategy of the tax practice, bringing ideas and executing on them
Leadership & Team Development
• Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and collaboration
• Provide timely, constructive feedback and actively invest in the professional development of staff
• Delegate effectively and manage workflow across multiple engagements to ensure timely, high-quality delivery
Strategy & Operations
• Contribute to firm-level strategy, including practice development, process improvement, and long-term planning
• Stay current on tax law changes and proactively communicate implications to clients and staff
• Support technology and process improvements that increase efficiency and quality of service
What You Bring
• Active CPA license required
• 10 years of progressive public accounting experience with a strong focus on tax
• Deep expertise in individual, partnership, and corporate/S-Corp taxation — with exposure to high-net-worth and closely-held business clients
• Proven ability to manage and develop client relationships, with a service-first mindset
• An entrepreneurial spirit: you see opportunity, you act on it, and you're comfortable being visible in the community
• A technology and process improvement focused mindset- we are currently using and looking to expand use of Secure AI and other technologies to improve efficiency
• Strong leadership presence and experience managing and mentoring tax staff
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills — you can explain complex tax issues clearly to clients and colleagues alike
• Sound judgment, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to make confident decisions
• Self-motivated, organized, and accountable — you take ownership and follow through
• Proficiency in tax software (CCH Axcess preferred); strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
