Job Description
The Mechanic I / II is responsible for supporting the maintenance, inspection, and repair of compressor packages and associated equipment used in production operations. This role assists in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of compressor systems by performing preventive maintenance, basic diagnostics, and repair tasks. The position requires mechanical aptitude, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work in field environments under varying conditions.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of compressor packages and related equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) activities and support planning and scheduling of maintenance tasks
- Conduct basic diagnostics and troubleshooting on mechanical and electrical systems
- Provide feedback on compressor performance and operational issues
- Support operation and reliability of compressor systems including engines and components
- Assist senior mechanics and support maintenance activities across multiple locations as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and repairs
- Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and operational standards
- Use hand tools, power tools, and equipment safely and effectively
- Operate or assist with heavy equipment such as cranes and manlifts when required
- Communicate effectively with team members and other personnel regarding maintenance activities and issues
- Basic knowledge of gas compression processes and production equipment
- Mechanical aptitude with understanding of compressor systems and components
- Entry-level diagnostic and troubleshooting skills (mechanical and electrical)
- Familiarity with engines and compressor brands such as Waukesha, Ariel, and Caterpillar (preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and procedures
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Self-motivation, initiative, and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Trade school, OEM training, or relevant industry experience preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in compression, production, or related equipment maintenance (or equivalent training)
- Basic knowledge of safety procedures and regulatory requirements
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Work performed in outdoor environments, including extreme heat and cold
- Exposure to high noise levels (hearing protection required)
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials under controlled conditions
- Frequent standing (up to 75%) and occasional sitting (up to 25%)
- Ability to lift at least 10 lbs regularly and occasionally over 50 lbs
- Climbing ladders, stairs, and working at heights or in confined spaces
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required
- Operation of heavy equipment such as cranes and manlifts
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including FR clothing, hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots
- Ability to respond to alarms and communicate effectively in person and via communication devices
