What are the responsibilities and job description for the Toolmaker / CNC Machinist position at Rigid Sustainable Solutions?
Rigid Sustainable Solutions (RSS) is looking for an experienced Toolmaker / CNC Machinist to join our growing R&D and prototyping team in Oxford, Ohio.
RSS works with leading companies in the packaging industry to develop and prototype next-generation packaging technologies. Our work spans advanced materials, molded fiber, advanced tooling, and new manufacturing processes. This is not a high-volume production machining position — we are looking for someone who enjoys building things, solving problems, and turning new ideas into physical parts and tooling.
What You'll Do:
• Program, set up, and operate CNC milling and turning equipment
• Manufacture prototype and production-intent tooling, molds, inserts, fixtures, and components
• Take projects from CAD model through CAM programming, machining, and final fit-up
• Work directly with engineers and technical teams to develop and improve tooling concepts
• Modify and troubleshoot existing tooling during development trials
• Support rapid-turn prototype and R&D projects
• Perform manual machining, fitting, assembly, and general toolroom work as needed
• Help develop machining processes and best practices as RSS continues to expand its in-house capabilities
Must-Have Experience:
• Strong CNC machining experience, including CNC milling and turning
• Experience programming CNC equipment using SOLIDWORKS / CAMWorks and/or Autodesk Fusion 360
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models
• Understanding of machining practices, tooling, feeds and speeds, workholding, and tolerances
• Ability to independently take a part from CAD/CAM through finished machining
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills
We'd Especially Like to See:
• Tool & die, moldmaking, or prototype machining experience
• Experience machining aluminum, tool steels, stainless steel, and engineering materials
• Experience with packaging, molding, forming, or prototype tooling
• Manual mill, lathe, grinding, welding, or fabrication experience
• Experience working in an R&D, prototype, or low-volume manufacturing environment
The Person We're Looking For:
We aren't looking for someone who simply wants to load parts and push cycle start. We're looking for a builder and problem solver — someone who enjoys being handed a challenge, figuring out how to make it, and working alongside engineers to improve the design along the way.
RSS is building a unique packaging innovation and prototyping center in partnership with industry and Miami University. You'll have the opportunity to work on projects ranging from early-stage concepts to technologies being prepared for commercialization.
If you are an experienced toolmaker or machinist who enjoys CNC machining, prototyping, tooling development, and solving new problems every day, we'd like to hear from you.
