Sr. Data Scientist

Our client is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead and establish their data science function from the ground up. This role is ideal for a hands-on, strategic thinker who thrives in smaller environments and enjoys building systems, processes, and teams from scratch. As the first and only data scientist initially, this individual will lay the foundation for scalable data science practices and grow the function over time. This is a fully remote position.

Senior Data Scientist’s Responsibilities And Duties

• Own the end-to-end data science lifecycle including problem framing, modeling, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
• Design and implement scalable machine learning models in real production environments
• Build and maintain data pipelines and workflows using Python, SQL, and AWS
• Translate business needs into data-driven solutions and actionable insights
• Establish best practices for experimentation, model governance, and documentation
• Partner closely with engineering, product, and leadership teams
• Set the long-term vision for data science and contribute to future team hiring and mentorship
  
  

Senior Data Scientist’s Qualifications And Skills

• 7–10 years of hands-on data science experience
• Strong technical foundation in Python, SQL, AWS, and machine learning
• Proven experience deploying and maintaining models in production environments
• Background working in smaller or lean organizations without dedicated data science support
• Comfortable operating independently and making architectural decisions
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
• Experience building or scaling data science functions is a plus
